Who Are Durston Tools?

Durston Tools are a jewellery tool making company founded in the UK and are most famous for making my very favourite and most treasured tool - the Rolling Mill.

Even though they are a UK company, Durston have a European warehouse which is great news for all of us here in Mainland Europe, but they also ship worldwide with DHL so you can get their tools pretty much wherever you are on the planet.

What can you make with the Bangle Forming Die Set?

You can use it to make anticlastic, synclastic and regular bangles, and because the dies all come in two sizes it’s also perfect for creating cuffs with a classic oval cuff shape.  You can use it for napkin rings of all kinds, trinket boxes, anticlastic bases for silver bowls, hooped earrings and many more projects.

What’s Included?

The Durston bangle forming die set comes with ten individual dies for making straight, Anticlastic and Synclastic forms.  The dies and support are presented on a branded stand for storage, and also included are a hammer, an Allen key for attaching the bolts to the support rod, two split pins which will keep the dies in place, the two bolts that will be fixed to the support rod and into a vice, and four washers to keep the whole thing secure and level in the vice.

How to Assemble the Die Set

Before assembly remove the oil from the dies with a little white spirit and kitchen roll until they’re clean and dry.

Slide two of the washers onto one of the bolts and use the Allen key to screw it into one of the holes in the rod.  Repeat with the other bolt so that they are both fixed in place.

The purpose of the washers are to hold the rod straight and in place during hammering, so the bolts need to be adjusted so that the top washers sit on top of the teeth of your vice while the bottom washers sit just below.  This will ensure that the stake is secure in the vice when hammered.

Once the rod is in place, the dies can be easily slid on and off each end of the rod, and secured in place with the split pins.
